STREETWEAR ACCORDING TO LUIS G. VELEZ
Join Salon for a conversation with Luis G. Velez, the founder of Guillermo Bravo, a contemporary fashion label based in Seattle, WA. The brand blends street and tech-wear influences with classic tailoring. Since launching in 2018, the brand has produced men’s and women’s apparel locally and designed footwear, which is produced in Marche, Italy.
Originally from Medellín, Colombia, Luis has called Seattle home for over a decade, bringing his point of view to his footwear and apparel designs, from ruched pants with tech details to tailored button-downs with double-layer pockets, all the way to his shoe designs.
However, his work extends beyond the garments themselves. Velez has created experiences that bring fashion, art, and community together, including a Seattle Supersonics-inspired art installation and capsule collection, a 2023 Bumbershoot fashion show, and Corre, a Seattle footwear-focused brick-and-mortar he co-founded. For Velez, fashion is more than what we wear. It’s a way of expressing his ideas and connecting cultures.
